Celestine

Celestine is a real-time, celestial granular Max for Live device for Ableton Live.  It transforms any sound into shimmering clouds, drifting harmonics, orbiting textures, and evolving ambient beds - all in real time, and all completely click-free.

Instead of loading samples, Celestine hosts a constantly rolling buffer that is always listening, always replenishing itself, and always reacting to what you play in the moment. It explodes incoming sound into swarms of micro-grains that are pitched, reversed, widened, scattered, and animated with musical intention. This makes it equally inspiring for live performance, studio sound design, improvisation, and for discovering unexpected moments while you twist knobs. Celestine does not store audio for later. It focuses on the fleeting moment. The present. The now.

The device was inspired by boutique guitar pedals and the feeling of immediate sonic gratification. While many granular devices feel clinical or static, Celestine feels organic and alive. It behaves like something with a personality, always hungry for new audio and always reshaping what you feed it. Throughout development I kept asking myself: What would Chase Bliss do? and I built toward that spirit of tactile exploration and musical unpredictability.

Celestine includes eight unique granular modes that shape grains into distinct behaviors:

• Grain – classic granular textures

• Mosaic – pitch-shifted harmonic clusters

• Glide – bending, sliding grains

• Reverie – dreamy reverse washes

• Bloom – ghost-echo reflections

• Tide – amplitude wave undulations

• Constellate – rhythmic anchor patterns

• Orbit – circular spatial movement

You can scrub through time or let Celestine follow the beat with bar-locked grain triggering. From shimmering pads to glitching rhythms, from delicate halos to chaotic scatter, Celestine was designed to be expressive, musical, effortless, and completely click-free.

The device also includes a powerful FX section featuring:

• wave-folding distortion for rich harmonics

• a bitcrusher that ranges from subtle grit to digital destruction

• a dreamy reverb for spacious depth

• the Magic multi-FX panel with seven tone-shaping algorithms that transform sound with a single control

Celestine shines on melodic material such as vocals, guitars, synths, and pianos, but it can also turn percussion into sparkling glitches, rhythmic fragments, or shimmering ambience. It works beautifully as an insert with dry and wet blending, or as a send where fragments of multiple tracks can cascade into it.

I’ve put a lot into this one - about four months of development, refinement, testing, and polishing. I’m asking $15 for Celestine. I could reasonably ask for more, but I want to treat this community with respect. I know your money is hard-earned, and musicians everywhere are navigating challenges.
